Of course, Prisma may be collapsed and its cables disconnected to be moved from one monitor location to another in a home, office, or classroom.  Or, Prisma may be packed in its canvas softcase for portability between home and school, home and office, to a son’s or daughter’s house for the week or weekend, or even on a vacation trip or on a cruise).  Prisma easily unpacks from and repacks into its  canvas case.

 

C o n n e c t i o n  t o  a  T V M o n i t o r

How do you know if your TV is video compatible with Prisma?  Prisma will connect to most standard TV sets.  Most TVs have a Video feature that allows them to display like a monitor.  Look for the Video-In orVideo Input connector, usually located on the back of your TV set, althoughs ome TVs have this connector on the front or on both the back and front of the TV set.  This connector is also referred to as a RCA video connector.  It can also be identified by the yellow-colored rim around the connector (this yellow-colored rim is the international symbol for the Video Input connector).

Even if your TV doesn’t have the RCA Video-Input connector, Prisma may still be connected.  A Video RF Modulator box from Radio Shack (Catalog # 15-1244 priced around $29.99) will allow a TV without the RCA Video-Input connector to display the Prisma.  The Video RF Modulator will automatically switch between the Prisma camera display (when Prisma is powered on) and the TV channel broadcasat display (when Prisma is powered off).  Installation instructions are included with theVideo RF Modulator box, or ask your local Radio Shack store representative when you purchase the Video RF Modulator box.

Is a LCD TV Compatible with Prisma?

Both a CRT TV and a LCD TV are Prisma compatible provided the TV has a Composite video input (a Component video input will not display the color image, so be sure the TV you select has a Composite video input).  LCD TVs are thinner and lighter than CRT TVs, so many users are attracted to LCD TV due to their smaller and more aesthetic appearance.  However, there are video quality differences you should be aware of.  A CRT TV generally is brighter than a LCD TV which some users prefer,while a LCD TV may be more comfortable and less glare sensitive for other users.  The higher brightness and contrast of the CRT monitors generally produces a more vibrant and truer color image when viewing pictures, photographs,colored charts or graphs, etc.  LCD screens may exhibit a slight fading of the text image when moving the print under the camera while reading due to differences in the brightness, contrast, and response time specifications of LCD TVs compared to CRT TVs.  There is a price consideration as well.  LCD TVs are still 2 to 4 times higher priced than a similar size CRT TV.  If you are a user who is primarily interested in image quality, we would recommend you connect Prisma with a CRT TV monitor.  If you have other interests like transportability of the monitor, very limited desk space, aesthetic priorities, and the like, you may want to consider connecting Prisma with a LCD TV monitor. 

Connection to a VGA Monito r
Add the Prisma VGA Converter accessory to the standard Prisma (for TV monitor) to allow the Prisma camera to connect to a VGA monitor.  The Prisma VGA Converter will connect to a CRT monitor or LCD flat-panel monitor so long as it has a standard 15-pin VGA connector.  Connection to a VGA monitor is a decision of choice or monitor availability, not necessarily image quality.  Like the comparison of CRT and LCD TVs, CRT and LCD VGA monitors have similar differences, although a PC CRT monitor is not a bright a display as a TV CRT monitor.   

The Prisma VGA Converter may also be connected to the PC's video card's 15-pin VGA output with the PC connection cable included with the Prisma VGA Converter.    A footswitch is provided with the Prisma VGA Converter that allows the user to switch between the Prisma print magnification image and the PC display.  Note:  The PC's display will not be magnified unless computer screen magnification software is installed in the PC (search for "screen magnification software" on the Internet, or for screen magnification software products like ZoomText or Magic)..
